FAQs

Our Chick Hatching Rental Experience is designed to educate and inspire families, homeschool groups, and classrooms about the wonders of life cycles, responsibility, and care for living creatures.

The rental experience lasts four weeks, during which you will incubate eggs, observe the hatching process, and learn about caring for baby chicks.

To ensure a good hatch rate, you will need to provide a suitable space close to an electrical outlet for the incubator and chicks. Room temperature should not go below 50 degrees at any time during the incubation process. We provide everything else!

Yes! Our experience is designed to be educational and engaging for families and groups of all ages, including children and adults. The elementary curriculum that is included in the basic kit is oriented towards 3rd graders but can be adapted to any age.

Yes. Please contact us once you have written permission from your principal (or a vendor application from your school district). We can invoice you, your school. or your district.

Things to consider:

To ensure a good hatch rate, your classroom temperature should not go below 50 degrees at night.

Once the chicks have hatched, it's a best to take them home to care for them over the weekend.

You can keep your hatched chicks, send them home with a student with willing parents, or return chicks to the farm.

Our included curriculum is customizable to your classroom needs!

Probably! We are an approved vendor for several homeschool programs in our area. Contact us for details. If your program doesn't allow vouchers to be used to purchase fertile eggs or feed, you may be able to use vouchers to purchase our Charter School Hatching Kit. (Eggs and feed are provided separately for no additional cost.)

Yes, families can go in together on a rental. We can invoice each family separately. However, please keep in mind that moving the incubator before hatching can harm the developing chicks. So we recommend leaving the incubator in the same spot until the hatch is complete. Once the chicks are moved into the brooder, they can be safely moved to another household, as long as the chicks are kept warm during the move.

Our chicken flock consists of Golden Sexlink hens that are known for high production of large brown eggs. We have a Road Island Red and Delaware Rooster that are very hardy. Which means you will get a hybrid chick.

Our quail covey consists of Jumbo Brown Coturnix Quail. Most are brown in color but occasionally you will get a white one!

Hatching kits are available for pickup from our farm location in Kamas:

During the order process, you will receive the address to our farm for pickup. You will also indicate your preferred start date. Once you place your order, we will contact you to schedule your pickup and return date.

Contact us if you would like to extend your rental ($25/wk).

If you want to keep your chicks, you will need to be prepared to care for them after you return your hatching rental kit. You'll need:

  • a big box  (a cardboard from the grocery store or a plastic bin with high sides and ventilation holes)
  • a warming plate or heating lamp to keep your chicks warm. Quail need heat until they are at least two weeks old and chickens need it until they are about six weeks old.
  • a chick feeder and waterer
  • chick starter (chickens) or game bird chick starter (quail) feed

We prioritize the health and safety of our customers and the chicks throughout the entire hatching experience. We provide guidelines for safe egg handling and encourage you to wash your hands before and after handling the fertile eggs and live chicks. All equipment has been sanitized before rental, and we provide care instructions for you after the chicks hatch to ensure they have a safe environment.
